Leo Campana Reflects On Recent Hamstring Injuries
“For me, I put that in the past, and now it’s time to be back with the team, to play a lot of minutes, to score goals.”
Leo Campana made his return on Wednesday, playing 25 minutes in a 3-2 loss to Nashville SC.
The striker came on as the New England Revolution searched for a late equalizer. It never came, and the club registered their second consecutive home loss.
“Really happy to be back with the team,” Campana said. “The most important thing is the three points; we couldn’t get them. It’s frustrating.”
Campana, who joined the Revolution during the off-season, has twice left games due to a hamstring injury.
Campana was subbed off in the 10th minute against Philadelphia Union on March 8. He missed three games before coming off the bench on April 12.
He then departed in the 32nd minute of the game against the San Jose Earthquakes on May 17. He returned on Wednesday after missing four games.
Campana went on international duty with Ecuador during the second window, but didn’t play, instead returning to the Revs.
“We’re working together with the team,” Campana said about recovery. “They’ve been really nice with me regarding what’s been the problem. We were trying to find it.
“[With the] national team, I couldn’t recover well to play. So that’s why I came back here to recover and to play.”
The 24-year-old noted that it’s frustrating to deal with this injuries, saying, “I know I take care of myself on and off the pitch.”
He’s now looking to put the injuries behind him.
“For me, I put that in the past, and now it’s time to be back with the team, to play a lot of minutes, to score goals.”
Campana started three of the four wins during the Revs’ best stretch. He recorded goals against New York FC and Toronto FC while playing alongside Ignatius Ganago.
Campana will need to get used to a new strike partner for now, as Ganago is out for at least four more games after being placed on the short-term Injured List on June 13.
“I think we have really good players up top, and we just need to find that balance, that chemistry,” Campana said. “That’s why we’re frustrated with the results, because we know what we have and what we are capable of. So hopefully we can get a good result on Saturday.”
Lets see how long he lasts.
