Ignatius Ganago Gives Everything to Revolution After International Duty
Ganago: “I was sleeping on the way back so I was really ready because I knew the team wanted to win. I was ready to fight for the team, to give everything.”
Ignatius Ganago returned from international duty with Cameroon at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Despite the extended travel and limited practice time, the attacker was committed to playing for the New England Revolution on Saturday.
“I wanted to play in the game,” Ganago told The Blazing Musket. “I was sleeping on the way back so I was really ready because I knew the team wanted to win. I was ready to fight for the team, to give everything.”
Ganago ultimately played 90 minutes, starting on the left flank before moving up top when Maxi Urruti was subbed off. His best moment came when he drew a late penalty that Carles Gil finished to give the Revs a 2-1 win.
“When I saw the ball, I was like, ‘Just go and touch the ball first,’” Ganago said. “I went to the ball and I gave everything I had. It was the last minute. I just said to myself, ‘Just go, give everything.’”
Ganago had two opportunities to score himself, but the goalkeeper blocked both.
It’s been some time since the former Ligue 1 attacker has found the back of the net, but he believes the breakthrough is coming.
“I think it’s going to happen soon,” Ganago said. “I’m not really frustrated because today we have a win. But for sure, I want to score. I’m here for this. Maybe next game, I will score. Let’s get a win again.”
Ganago stated that some of his conviction comes from the support of the coaching staff, noting, “The coach has given me the opportunity to be confident. The team also believes in me.”
After Saturday’s game, Porter said that Ganago “played really well” and was “lively, really dangerous.”
While Porter would’ve liked to see Ganago finish the two chances in the first half, he has faith that the goals are coming.
“He ended up playing 90 minutes after traveling 16 hours and really not doing much for seven days,” Porter said. “So, that is pretty incredible for him. He just has to score those goals, and he will.”
