Hartford Athletic Sign Defender Sebastian Anderson
Anderson is a product of the Colorado Rapids system and previously played for Colorado Springs Switchbacks in the USL Championship
Hartford Athletic announced the signing of defender Sebastian Anderson on Thursday. Anderson is the fifth new signing of the 2024-25 offseason and the second new member of the back line following the addition of Adrián Diz Pe.
Anderson, who hails from Sacramento, California, began his career with the Real Colorado academy in 2012 before joining the Colorado Rapids academy in 2017. In 2019, he signed a homegrown player contract with Rapids becoming the youngest homegrown signing in club history and made his professional debut on April 27, 2019 in an MLS match against Atlanta United. He scored his first goal - and later received his first red card - later that same season in a game against NYCFC.
The defender spent time on loan with Colorado Switchbacks in the USL Championship over the 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons, making a total of 36 appearances for them over the four seasons. His greatest success came in 2021 when he made 27 appearances and recorded seven assists as Brendan Burke’s team made the Western Conference playoffs. He was also named to the USL Championship Team of the Week twice during that season. Subsequent to his loan spells in the Championship, Anderson played for both Rapids first team in MLS and Rapids 2 in MLSNP.
Capable of playing at full-back in a back four as well as on the right side of midfield in 3-4-3, Anderson figures to get a crack at significant minutes for the Latics in 2025. The best-case scenario for him is to recapture the form he showed in 2021 - perhaps with a little more defensive maturity - and be a right-sided balance to Emmanuel Samadia’s efforts on the left.
The Blazing Musket will continue to have coverage of all of Hartford Athletic’s offseason moves as they are announced.
