Dor Turgeman Collects Goal And Assist in MLS Debut
Dor Turgeman impresses in his Revolution debut.
It didn’t take long for Dor Turgeman to make an impact.
The striker entered in the 58th minute of Saturday’s game against Atlanta United to make his New England Revolution debut and quickly showcased an ability to stretch the backline and take on defenders.
In the 72nd minute, he scored the game-winning goal after getting on the end of a through ball from Carles Gil. There was still work to do, though, as Turgeman deceived his defender before finishing with his left foot.
He played provider three minutes later when he made a darting run forward and found Leo Campana.
It was a dream start for the attacker, who signed a U-22 deal during the summer transfer window.
He finished the night with 15 touches (five in the opposition’s box), three chances created, and two fouls drawn. He was also 7/7 on accurate passes and 3/6 on ground duels.
Obviously, tonight’s performance was against Atlanta United, who are 5-14-12 with a -20 goal differential. That said, I liked that Turgeman has the speed and creativity to get in behind. This will allow the Revs to play in transition.
I also liked that he can create independently. His quick feet force defenders to be honest, and he can certainly shoot.
Interim head coach Pablo Moreira described him well, saying, “A very smooth, slippery nine. He can turn on a dot. He has very good, soft feet, can lay the ball off, run the channel.
“He’s not your prototypical nine in the sense that he’s not like a target striker, but he’s very versatile in what he can offer. We were very happy to have him here and see that in person. Very excited for what is to come.”
I’m curious to see how he performs inside the box. We got a glimpse of that here, though it didn’t amount to much.
The Revs have been missing a bona fide goalscorer, a role that Turgeman could fill. The Israeli international should also open up space for Campana.
It’s important to remember that this is a brief appearance in a game featuring two teams that missed the playoffs.
But it was also a perfect start to Turgeman’s Revolution career.
