Caleb Porter: "I'm Committed To This Club"
Porter: "I'm not going anywhere; I'm committed to this club. I know where we're going to get to. I'm not backing down. I'm not wavering. I'm not flinching."
The New England Revolution haven’t started 2024 the way they wanted, but head coach Caleb Porter said he and his players remain committed to the season.
The Revs sit at the bottom of the league with a 2-9-1 record. They’ve scored nine goals while conceding 25.
Their most recent outing was a 3-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union, a game where the Revs played down a man for 76 minutes due to a red card.
The Revolution are now preparing to host New York City FC on Saturday.
“This team is united,” Porter said. “They're fighting. We're all committed to this club and this season. You saw it, we went down a man 13 minutes into the game, we've got our DP captain [Carles Gil and others] who fought to the last second.
“This team is on board. They're fighting. They're not happy with the results, but the locker room is together. The key is to win the next game.
“It’s disappointing that we didn't get the chance to play 11-v-11 and to show our improvement and to show that next level that this team has gone to.”
Porter, who is in his first year as head coach of the Revolution, stated that he’s devoted to the cause.
“The other thing is, I'm not going anywhere; I'm committed to this club,” Porter said. “I know where we're going to get to. I'm not backing down. I'm not wavering. I'm not flinching.
“This team is on board with me as well, and I'm on board with them. Doesn't mean we're doing cartwheels, because we're losing, but I think the key thing is that these guys are fighting and they will continue to fight, and that's not going to change.”
The upcoming stretch is important because the Revs play five of the next seven games at Gillette Stadium.
While the results haven’t gone the Revolution’s way so far, Porter is encouraging fans to continue to support the players.
“When you're not getting results, I understand the fans aren't going to be happy and they are going to want more,” Porter said. “What will help us if they're continuing to be supportive and cheer – they don’t have to cheer for me, but cheer for the players, support them. I'm going to keep doing what I always do, and there will be a day where the fans are happy with me too, and I get that they're not right now.”
Coaches that have the team behind them 1. Don’t have to tell everyone, 2. Don’t have to say they’re not going anywhere, and 3. Don’t bemoan that they didn’t get the chance to show their improvement because of a red card.
Show your improvement by facing that adversity! Show your cohesion by not being a dick to your players and fans! Stop making excuses about what coulda been. Its just so poor and transparent.
This guy isn’t good enough at coaching to merit this schtick
