Bruce Arena Hints That There Could be Changes to the Starting Lineup This Weekend
Arena: We haven’t determined a starting lineup yet. We will tomorrow. But there are going to be changes and I think because of the makeup of our roster, there will be competition week in and week out.
There’s a lot of competition for playing time on the New England Revolution. This could mean that we see changes to the starting lineup week to week.
The Revolution were victorious on Matchday 1, as they defeated Charlotte FC 1-0 courtesy of a late goal from Henry Kessler.
The Revs now return home to face the Houston Dynamo on Saturday. Bruce Arena and his coaching staff haven’t finalized their starting lineup yet, but the veteran coach did hint that there could be changes this weekend, and throughout the season.
“Well, we haven’t determined a starting lineup yet, we will tomorrow,” Arena said. “But there are going to be changes and I think because of the makeup of our roster, there will be competition week in and week out. We will be positioned to make changes, I think, every week.”
Having a deep team is important because of the length of the season and the reality that injuries and suspensions are bound to happen. Additionally, competition on the roster pushes players to perform at their best.
Arena anticipates leaning on different individuals throughout the season if 2023 is going to be a success.
“So there’s going to be changes in our lineup throughout the season,” Arena said. “And it’s going to be critically important that we get a great effort out of our entire roster.”
