Brayan Ceballos' Scores First MLS Goal
“The celebration was for my family. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to be here with me because of visa things."
Scoring your first goal is supposed to be a moment filled with elation and joy but there was a cloud of sadness over the celebration of center back Brayan Ceballo’s first Revolution goal on Wednesday evening.
After a fist pump and a brief hug with set-piece coach Marc Orti Esteban, Ceballos raced for the cameras, where he showed his shin guard that featured an image of his family. After the match, Ceballos told media in the locker room that he has been unable to see his wife and daughter due to visa issues keeping them out of the United States.
“The celebration was for my family,” he said. “Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to be here with me because of visa things. I dedicated that goal to my wife and my 4-year-old daughter, who sadly hasn’t been here with me since I arrived here. It was for them.”
Even though New England suffered a 3-2 loss, it was Ceballos’ best performance. On top of the goal, he exhibited great ability on the ball and was a quality defender.
Ceballos completed the most passes of any player in the match and recorded 68 touches. Additionally, he recorded eight defensive actions and three clearances according to FotMob.
While it was his best performance in a Revs uniform, Ceballos was disappointed that the Revs left the night empty-handed.
“Thanks to God, I had the opportunity to score but unfortunately it wasn’t gratifying because we didn’t get the victory,” he said. “The goal didn’t serve any value if we didn’t get the win.”
Of all the players that New England acquired this offseason, Ceballos seems to be the one having the most success. Hopefully, he can celebrate his success with his family by his side in the not-so-distant future.
Ceballos has been really solid this year. I'm sad that his family couldn't be there, and hopefully their visa situation will get resolved soon, but happy to see him get his first goal as a Rev
