Peyton Miller And Ilay Feingold Shine In 3-0 Win Over Montreal
“We feel like we have two of the best young wingbacks in the league, and I think they showed it tonight.”
New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter believes he has two of the best young wingbacks in Major League Soccer with Peyton Miller and Ilay Feingold.
Miller, 17, and Feingold, 20, were all over the scoresheet on Saturday when the Revs bested CF Montreal 3-0.
Miller scored the first goal of the night, which Feingold assisted. Feingold had the following two goals, one of which was aided by Miller.
“We feel like we have two of the best young wingbacks in the league, and I think they showed it tonight,” Porter said.
The Revs benefited from a first-half red card given to Giacomo Vrioni. This opened up space, which the Revs exploited.
“We knew the outside backs could basically be wingers in that second half and we would manage their transitions with our three central defenders against their two forwards,” Porter explained. “We basically left our three central defenders against their two forwards and gambled with our outside backs pushing on and basically playing like wingers.”
Miller, who recently received an invite to a U.S. U-20 camp, has long been projected as a player who will one day head to Europe.
Last year, Porter told The Sports Hub that the Revs Homegrown has “scouts all over him.”
Feingold, who has played for Israel’s senior national team, also has high upside.
“They have as much talent as potential as any wingback in the league, and that’s exciting, because they’re only going to get better and better and better,” Porter said.
Part of what makes Miller and Feingold such promising prospects is their willingness to learn.
“They are still very young and have many things to learn,” Carles Gil said. “But I’m really happy for them because they are very good guys. Both are trying to be better and better every day, trying to learn, to improve.”
Why can’t the Revs keep these young players? Money more important than winning?
The young guns do it all in Montreal.
