I forgot about the “things I see that you don’t” presser. Porter is so smug and off putting and not at all talented enough at what he does to act the way he does. It’s actually insulting
Does "passes received" count, or is there a way to count, attempts? Because I feel like more than any other player he isn't on the end of or can't get to passes and crosses that should generally be his.
Feels like this relates to Bob's point but _my impression_ (I don't know how data _could_ validate this) is that the quality isn't the issue; it's the receiver.
I don’t think I’ve seen a stat that is like “number of times targeted for a pass”. There is “passes received” and I use it above but it’s hard to separate out which passes were complete vs incomplete vs intercepted vs off target etc when targeting a specific player.
If I had more energy it’s more of a question for subjective film analysis. My guess is we’d see general miscommunications/Vrioni not being on the same page with the midfield. Or just a step late to make the run.
I think the missing stat is *quality* passes played into (and near) the area. Revs are very weak in that category, according to my eyes. Even Gil has been less effective with his penalty area passes this year.
Still, last game they were clearly better, so we’ll see pretty quickly if they are really heading in the right direction.
I think there's probably a good amount of truth to this.
I'd note, though, that while the passing hasn't been great there have also been a fair number of times where the pass may be the right one but there's been a miscommunication and Vrioni isn't making the run, or doesn't recognize the pass soon enough.
As a fun bonus fact, the Revolution are creating about 23% less xG per match this season but Carles Gil actually has *more* key passes per 90 (up to 3.42 from 3.03).

Smug, yes, that is the word I have been searching for to describe him.
You know that ad for Visa, "It's everywhere you want to be"? He is never where his teammates want him to be. That's the issue.

Love this breakdown.
Thanks for reading, I appreciate it!

Good analysis. If you converted this from per 90 minutes to per salary $ I dare say that it would look significantly worse.
